I volunteer for UNCW's Campus Conduct Board is a committee of undergraduate students that have been selected to take on the responsibility of board hearings for UNCW. There are two boards: the conduct board and the honors academic board. The conduct board consists of five students and one faculty member for hearings, and the academic board consists of five students and two faculty members.
We receive training on what to do during board hearings, and four meetings throughout the school year. If selected for a hearing, we arrive early to review the information about the case. Hearings take place when a student is accused of violating the Code of Student Life.
During a hearing, the chair will read a script so each hearing is done in an orderly fashion. Members of the board will ask the respondent questions about the case, and we will call in all witnesses for questioning. At the end, the board discusses the information and decides what action will be taken next, whether it be probation, suspension, or other consequences.
Everything mentioned within the hearings and trainings are 100% confidential.
